"Male and Female" by Jackson Pollock

The strangeness will wear off and I think we will discover the deeper meanings in modern art. -Jackson Pollock

Expressing emotions and, therefore the experiences contain different ways. Art is one of the most known ways of expression from the past to now. In general, in order to express feelings artists, from the past to now, try different kinds of methods. Jackson Pollock is a great example in terms of the previous fact. He was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912 and grew up both in Arizona and Chico, California. Pollock is known for being the symbol of "abstract expressionism" by creating "debatable" masterpieces. The main reason which makes Pollock's paintings different is the way he was creating it. As being totally different from well-known art movements such as classical art, expressionism, and impressionism, Pollock was making a connection between abstract painting and expressionism. According to my perspective, it is possible to say that, abstract expressionism is the way of presenting our inside world as a puzzle. Being abstract makes the expression more complex, that's why I prefer to count it as a puzzle.

The painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through. -Jackson Pollock

After the Second World War, the scene of art started to have a different kind of visions in terms of contribution of new ways to create paintings. Pollock, with respect to the stated fact, started to grow its reputation by doing his way which contains radical methods. Pollock's most famous way of creating art is known as "drip and splash". This brand new art method is still a topic of a debate. The trigger point relies on the exotic way of using it. Pollock's famous artwork "Male and Female" is, according to me, one of his best artworks in terms of understanding his "drip and splash" method.

"Male and Female" by Jackson Pollock is one of the great expressions about the relation between male and female in the scene of abstract expressionism. From being the main topic of poems to song lyrics, male-female relationship contains an importance, especially in the scene of arts. Pollock's complex vision towards the male-female relationship contains a mirror effect, that's why, according to my point of view.

Understanding the relation between male and female is always containing a question mark in itself, because of differences in general, from the different point of views, different biological structures, and different understandings. That's why Pollock's complex way of creating is representing the complex structure between male and female perfectly. For me, "Male and Female" is representing the origination of a unity by emphasizing complexity and differences

Jackson Pollock's perspective in terms of making combinations by using a different kind of methods is solid on the related painting. The male figure which is on the right side of the canvas contains darker colors and graffiti, on the other hand, the female figure on the left side of the canvas contains cat-eyelashes and brighter colors. On the female representation side, Pollock's decision of using red color is a message for the general understanding of giving a meaning to the red color. In general, red is representing femininity. On the male representation side, the general figure is having a black colored background. For Pollock, black color is a manly color which is also a match with red color.

When I'm painting, I'm not aware of what I'm doing. It's only after a get-acquainted period that I see what I've been about. I've no fears about making changes for the painting has a life of its own. -Jackson Pollock
As an important fact, Pollock's usage of colors is also having an influence from the Native American culture. During one of the interviews, Pollock is saying that he is getting creative ideas from the influential Native American culture from the design (as complexity) and how to use colors. In terms of creating "Male and Female", Pollock's ideas coming from the Native American culture which is making the artwork more influential as a combination of culture and modernity.
